Ever since the fitness craze in the 1980’s, we have become a nation increasingly aware of our health and physique. Millions of dollars are spent every year in the quest for a perfect body. Gyms are big business. Personal trainers are making a tidy living helping people stay fit. Bodybuilding supplements are at an all-time level of performance.
The sport of bodybuilding has been around for long time
Eugene Sandow, known as the “father of bodybuilding” was merited with inventing the sport in the late 19th century. He invited people to view his body in muscle exhibits. He built a stage performance around strength and agility as well as displaying a “Grecian” physique. Sandow became so successful, he created several businesses around his fame. He was among the first persons to market body building products bearing his name. As he became celebrated, he was credited with the invention of the first exercise equipment marketed to the masses. Sandow was recognized to have begun the first body building contest called “The Great Competition” which was held in London. Other competitions followed like; the Mr. Olympia competition that remains the most popular to date.

World War II 
Due to war, men in the country were inspired to become bigger, stronger, and more aggressive. Training techniques were improved, as well as nutrition. As a result, bodybuilding equipment evolved into effective means for working muscles. Organizations like the Amateur Athletic Union and the International Federation of Body Building came into being. Arnold Schwarzenegger began to make body building popular when the film “Pumping Iron” was released in 1970.
